FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR REFRESHER TRAININGS

At the instructor refresher seminar, matters related to flight instruction are reviewed in order to renew a valid or expired flight instructor qualification (FI/IRI). The duration of the course is two days. There are 10-12 hours of theory teaching.

In order to extend the validity of the FI qualification, its holder must meet two of the following three requirements:

  1. ​

    • For the FI(A) and (H) rating, at least 50 hours of experience as a flight instructor on the relevant aircraft group during the validity period of the rating as an FI, TRI, CRI, IRI or MI instructor or flight examiner; if the validity of the instrument flight training rights is to be extended, 10 of these hours must be flight instructing for the instrument flight qualification and the hours must have been completed during the 12 months before the expiration date of the FI qualification;

    • For the FI(As) qualification, at least 20 hours experience as a flight instructor on aircraft as an FI or IRI flight instructor or flight examiner during the validity period of the qualification; if the validity of the instrument flight rating is to be extended, 10 of these hours must be flight lessons for the instrument flight qualification and they must have been completed during the 12 months before the expiry date of the FI qualification

    • For the FI(S) qualification, at least 30 hours or 60 take-offs as flight instructor on gliders, motor gliders or TMG motor gliders or as a FI flight instructor or flight examiner during the validity period of the qualification;

    • For the FI(B) qualification, at least 6 hours experience as a flight instructor with hot air balloons as an FI flight instructor or flight examiner during the validity period of the qualification;

  2. Participation in refresher training for flight instructors during the validity period of the qualification;

  3. Passing the proficiency assessment in accordance with point FCL.935 during the 12 months before the expiry date of the FI rating.

    • At least every second revalidation for an FI(A) or FI(H) rating, or every third revalidation for an FI(As), (S) or (B) rating, the holder shall pass a proficiency assessment in accordance with point FCL.935 .

    • Renewal. If the validity of the FI qualification has expired, the applicant must during the 12 months before the renewal

      1. participate in refresher training for flight instructors;

      2. pass the proficiency assessment in accordance with point FCL.935.
